Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind. Always

Gosh human nature is so funny. When I moved to Los Angeles a few years ago, all I could think of was how much I missed the local food, especially the Asian fusion variety. Now that I’m back living in Hawaii…I just can’t stop thinking of the farm-to-table health conscious cuisine of SoCal! This is why the brains of the world need to start hitting the pavement on that teleportation technology.

I’ll be honest, the first year I was in L.A…SUCKED! I didn’t have friends, didn’t know my way around, and was pissed to find out that Arnold and Kim K lied about California always being warm and sunny. It actually gets pretty darn breezy and I swear the term June Gloom originated in California.

I did make a few connections that first year. When I met Tiffanie, I thought she was the prettiest little thang! The funny thing is she looks totally Asian, but was raised in Texas. So she has this little southern twang sometimes, and she gives Martha Stewart a run for her money with her creativity and craftiness.

Even though she’s a vegetarian, Tiffanie is the one who introduced me to Seongbukdong (best Galbi Jjim in Los Angeles…future post!). She is good peeps, and one Monday Funday (when you work in retail, weekends off are a rarity), she took me to one of her favorite hotspots on West L.A called Cafe Gratitude.

Located on famous Larchmont Boulevard, this eatery is known for their super fresh and health conscious offerings. The entire menu is vegan, and all the ingredients are organic. The produce used is grown on their own local farm! They have a nice selection of raw food dishes, and a pretty extensive organic wine list as well. Even though Hawaii in general promotes a healthy lifestyle, we don’t have a lot of restaurant choices on this level.

My second year was when I really fell in love with L.A. I met really good people and made some great friends. I landed my dream job as an Esthetician for Dr. Zein Obagi in his Beverly Hills Skin Health Institute, in addition to my post as a business manager for luxury cosmetic giant La Mer. Even when I decided to move back to Hawaii this past fall, I still kept my L.A apartment. You could call it separation anxiety
